Qumran National Park is where many believe the Dead Sea Scrolls were written by the Dead Sea Community that lived there. Most experts believe the messianic, aescetic and apocalyptic group of scribes to be the Essenes. The first scrolls were discovered in late 1947 by local beduin at virtually the same time that the modern State of Israel was being voted officially into existence by the UN! It lies in the Judean Desert close to the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea.
