The Church or Basilica of the Nativity is located in Bethlehem. Together with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, it is one of the oldest and holiest places for all Christians marking the birthplace of Jesus. The grotto contains a 14-pointed, silver Star of Bethlehem on the floor where Mary gave birth to Jesus. For many centuries, Greek and Armenian Orthodox as well as Roman Catholic priests have held services there at appointed times. Bethlehem is under Palestinian control since 1995.
