Description

The Mt. of Temptation is the traditional site where Jesus, after fasting for forty days and nights, was tempted by Satan, according to the Gospels. A Byzantine monastery, the Qarantal ( from "forty"), was built on the mount over 1500 years ago. It is built into the cliff overlooking the tel and modern town of Jericho. The monastery can be accessed via a steep climb or cablecar.
