The United States victory over Japan in WWII (V-J day) was a historical event of great magnitude. That being said, this event is mostly remembered by the famous kiss between a U.S. Navy sailor and a total stranger in New York City Times Square. This iconic picture was taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 14, 1945. The photograph was published in Life magazine in 1945 with the caption "In New York's Times Square a white-clad girl clutches her purse and skirt as an uninhibited sailor plants his lips squarely on hers".
