Description

The Door to Hell, also known as the Darvaza gas crater, is a natural gas field in Derweze, Turkmenistan. It has been burning continuously since it was ignited by Soviet engineers in 1971. The crater is 69 meters (226 feet) wide and 30 meters (98 feet) deep, with flames and boiling mud that create a spectacular sight, especially at night.
